The United Nations and the United States have condemned the outbreak of fighting between Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces on Saturday in Sudan.

Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres on behalf of United Nations made the condemnation, while called on the leaders of the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces to cease hostilities, restore calm and initiate a dialogue to resolve the current crisis.

He said, “Any further escalation in the fighting will have a devastating impact on civilians and further aggravate the already precarious humanitarian situation in the country.

The UN Chief also called on Member States in the region to support efforts to restore order and return to the path of transition.

While engaging with leaders in the region, reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations to support the people of Sudan in their efforts to restore a democratic transition and realize their aspirations for building a peaceful and secure future

The United States has expressed serious concerned about reports of escalating violence between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces.

According to Secretary of State, Antony Blinken on his social media platform Saturday while reacting to the situation in Sudan, said they have gotten in touch with the Embassy team in Khartoum, all are currently accounted for.

Blinken added that the United States deeply urge all actors to stop the violence immediately and avoid further escalations or troop mobilizations and continue talks to resolve outstanding issues.

It was reported that the fight outbreak between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has reached many parts of the capital Khartoum and other areas outside the capital, on Saturday morning.

According to media reports, the RSF claimed that it had taken control of Khartoum international airport, Merowe airport, al-Obeid airport and the presidential palace.

The RSF, an independent Sudanese military force, grew out of the Janjaweed militia, formerly active in the Darfur region of the country.

The organization has been involved in talks aimed at a transition from the current military rule, which has existed since a coup in 2021, to a civilian government.

The integration of the RSF into the armed forces has been one of the issues under discussion, as part of UN-backed political agreement reached in February, following months of negotiations.
