United States has strongly condemned the attack on energy infrastructure in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region on Friday.

According to the statement released by the State Department Spokesman, Mathew Miller on Friday, while the United States offered condolences to the families of those who were killed, and wished for the quick recovery of those who were injured.

United States said, “Attacks like this are an affront to Iraq’s sovereignty. We encourage the authorities to investigate and bring to justice those who are responsible”.

The United States vowed to continue to work with Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government in support of Iraqi security, stability, and sovereignty.

The death toll from a drone attack targeting the Khor Mor gas field in Iraq’s Kurdistan region on Friday rose to 4 expatriate workers, an advisor to the Iraqi Kurdish Prime Minister told Reuters.

Production has also been suspended, the advisor to the Iraqi Kurdish Prime Minister and a senior Kurdish politician said.

The four expatriate workers killed in the attack were from Yemen, a statement from the Kurdish Regional Government said.

The drone attack on the Khor Mor gas field halted gas supplies to power plants resulting to a reduction of approximately 2,500 MW of electricity, a statement from Kurdistan’s electricity ministry said, indicating that operations at the field were suspended.
