The United States has congratulated the Ghana’s President-elect John Mahama on his successful election campaign, following the declaration of results by Ghana’s Electoral Commission.

Secretary of State, Antony Blinken who in a statement made this known also extended the congratulations to Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on becoming Ghana’s first female Vice President.

Also, the United States commended the Electoral Commission, its hundreds of thousands of poll workers, civil society, and the country’s security forces, who helped ensure a peaceful and transparent process.
“We also applaud Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for his gracious acceptance of the results. We are aware of reports of isolated incidents of violence and at least four confirmed deaths”.

He on behalf of United States extended its condolences to the families of those killed and urged a full investigation and accountability.

“The United States is proud of our enduring partnership and friendship with the people and government of Ghana. We look forward to working closely with President-elect Mahama to carry our historic relationship into the future”, the Secretary of State said.
Report gathered revealed that John Dramani Mahama made triumphant return to Ghana’s presidency after securing a decisive victory in the 2024 elections.

The results from collation centers indicate a landslide win for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in both the presidential and parliamentary polls.

The comeback victory dethrones the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who conceded defeat in a press briefing.
Political analysts have largely attributed the NPP’s loss to public dissatisfaction with its governance, citing issues of economic mismanagement and unmet campaign promises.

Addressing the nation, Dr. Bawumia admitted defeat and congratulated John Mahama on his win: “Let me say that the data from our internal collation indicates that former President Mahama has won the elections decisively, and NDC has won Parliament. I have just called His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President-Elect, to congratulate him.”

Mahama’s victory signals a shift in Ghana’s political landscape, marking a return to power for the NDC and a renewed mandate to address the nation’s pressing challenges. With his re-election, Mahama is set to shape Ghana’s future in a highly anticipated second term.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo on X said, Earlier this evening, I called President-elect @JDMahama to congratulate him on his decisive victory in the just-ended presidential election.

“I also congratulated the @ECGhanaOfficial and the Ghanaian people for a successful election that reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy. In the spirit of collaboration”.

The President diaclosed that he has invited the President-elect Mahama for a meeting on Wednesday at Jubilee House to initiate the transition process. “May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong”, he prayed.
