Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Amb. Amina Smaila, Nigeria’s Consul-General in Atlanta Georgia for her recognition, commendation by House of Representatives of the State of Georgia, thus making history as the first-ever recognition of an African diplomat in its 247-year history
In the congratulatory message as contained in a statement released by the Commission, while Dabiri-Erewa described Smaila as an exceptional and distinguished Nigerian diplomat with deep concerns for fellow citizens.
The NIDCOM boss said she was not surprised about the well-deserved honour done to Smaila going by her pedigree as an outstanding and intelligent public servant with exceptional service in the Nigeria foreign service for over two decades.
She, however, urged her to continue to do more for humanity and serve as inspiration to others coming behind her as recognition by the House of Representatives of Georgia was unique and historical.
In the Resolution 647 moved by Rep. Okoye, of the 102nd district, the House resolved to recognise Amb. Amina Smaila “for her efficient, effective, unselfish and dedicated public service and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.”
At the recognition ceremony in the parliament on Friday, Amb. Amina Smaila and all Nigerian-American State Representatives were in attendance.
