Former American Vice President Kamala Harris has vehemently denounced the President, Donald Trump’s recent threats against Iran, labeling them as “‘abhorrent’ and a dangerous escalation of an ‘illegal war of choice.'”

Kamala’s strong condemnation comes as the President issued stark ultimatum to Iran, threatening to wipe out an “entire civilization” if his demands are not met by an 8 p.m.

Eastern deadline on April 7, 2026 2, Trump, in statements made on Truth Social and reiterated elsewhere, declared that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again” if Iran fails to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz and agree to a new deal.

These threats included the potential bombing of all Iranian power plants and bridges, a move that drawn widespread international concern and criticism.

The ultimatum follows reports of United States military strikes on Iranian targets, including Kharg Island, a key oil export terminal.

Harris, in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) and with media outlets, asserted that Trump’s actions constitute a threat to commit war crimes.
She criticized the President for initiating a “disastrous war of his own making” without a clear plan or strategy for its
resolution.

“The President of the United States is threatening to commit war crimes and wipe out a ‘whole civilization’, all because he started a disastrous war of his own making and had no plan and no strategy for how to end it. This is abhorrent, and the American people do not support this.

“Trump’s recklessness is needlessly putting our brave service members in harm’s way, destroying America’s global standing, and making life even more unaffordable for the American people. We must all stand against this and oppose funding this illegal war of choice.”
Harris’ statement highlighted the perceived recklessness of Trump’s approach, warning of the dangers posed to American service members, erosion of America’s global standing, and the potential for increased economic hardship for the American people.

The President’s threats have also elicited sharp reactions from other prominent political figures. Senator Bernie Sanders characterized Trump’s remarks as the “ravings of a dangerous and mentally unbalanced individual”.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries echoed these sentiments, stating that “Donald Trump’s reckless war of choice must end”.
Internationally, the response has been equally critical. Russia and China have reportedly vetoed the United Nations resolution aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, indicating a lack of int’l consensus on the U.S. approach.

Amnesty International has also weighed in, cautioning that Trump’s threats to destroy Iranian infrastructure could be
considered war crimes under int’l law.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard
has issued its own warning, threatening to cut off fuel supplies “for years” if the U.S. proceeds with its threats.

As the 8 p.m. Eastern deadline approaches, the situation remains tense, with global leaders and citizens alike watching closely for more further developments in this rapidly escalating crisis.
