Nigerians have showered encomium to the Super Eagles team for their victory over Angola on Friday evening which qualifies them for the Semifinals of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON in Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles defeated the Angolan team 1-0 to to reach AFCON 2023 semi-final with the Atalanta winger, Ademola Lookman had the first goal at 41 minutes which takes his goal tally to three, following an assist from Moses Simon.
Victor Osimhen also had a second goal which was later canceled and recorded as an offside, but still the Nigeria’s Eagles qualified for the semi-final, where they will face the winner of the last-eight fixture between South Africa and Cape Verde.
In the heart of celebration, the Federal Government through the honorable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their victory.
He said with the Super Eagles 1-0 victory which qualifies Nigeria for the Semifinals of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, the road to claiming Nigeia’s fourth AFCON trophy is in sight.
Idris commended the fighting spirit of the Super Eagles, saying it was a gladiatorial performance that has gladdened the hearts of Nigerians across the world.
“With a performance like today’s, Nigerians look forward to more outstanding victories in the Super Eagles next matches leading to a befitting victory in the AFCON finals,” Idris said. While called on Nigerians to continue in their support for the Super Eagles.
On X formerly Twitter, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said Incredible victory for the Super Eagles against Angola on Friday. “An enjoyable performance from Lookman, Nwabali, Ekong, Bassey, and everyone else. We were solid as usual.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the entire nation stands proud, encouraged them to keep soaring to new heights, adding that the echoes of triumph resonate not only on the field but also within the hearts of millions who passionately support the team.
“The energy and dedication displayed by the players mirror the spirit of a nation that continues to overcome challenges, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised the Super Eagles.
Hope Uzodimma, Imo State Governor who hailed the Super Eagles for this victory said, their outstanding performance showcased incredible teamwork, skill and determination. “Each strike and tackle were moments of pride for every Nigerian, echoing across the nation.
“As you bask in the glory of this triumph, remember that the entire country is behind you, cheering for more victories. Continue to spread your wings, soar higher and make Nigeria proud. The nation celebrates your achievement and eagerly anticipates more triumphs ahead”, he said.
Former Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad on X said, “The Super Eagles have done it again. We’ve made it to semifinals Congratulations, Nigeria. Let’s keep cheering them on to victory. I love how the Angolans handled their defeat against the Super Eagles.
“No trolling, no dragging or disrespectful comments against Nigeria. Completely different from the way our neighbors, Cameroon, handled their own defeat. Even Ghana, when we shouldn’t even be the ones to blame for their failures. Obrigado, Angolans”, he said.
On X, Isaac Olatunde in his own view said, “Do you see why we are better together? If Igbo leaves today, Victor Osimhen is most likely to join the Biafra National Team, and Lookman would continue as a member of the Nigeria Super Eagles.
“Biafra will not have Lookman, and in Nigeria, we will never have Victor Osimhen. This would not serve the best interests of all of us. When you are less busy, think about it. Congratulations to Nigeria’s Super Eagles”, he hailed.
Oseni Rufai, a TV Presenter on X said, “Super Eagles started the tournament woefully, they were super chickens at some point but they took the criticism and worked on their faults and today they are looking good. How I wish government can work on the economy the way super Eagles are working on their faults”, he concluded.
Meanwhile the Super Eagles had dedicated their victory to the late footballer, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji whose live ended on the field 35 years ago while playing angolan team. According to them, “Today’s victory over Angola is a poignant reminder of the adamant spirit of Nigerian football.
“As we celebrate this triumph, we also honor the memory of Late Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji, who tragically left us while playing against Angola 35 years ago. His passion for the game and sacrifice ll never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Samuel Okwaraji, your legacy lives on”, the team said on X.
