Breakthrough: US, Iran announce 2-week ceasefire

In a dramatic diplomatic breakthrough, the United States and Islamic Republic of Iran have agreed to a historic two-week ceasefire, halting the imminent military
strikes and opening a crucial window to finalize a long-term peace agreement in the Middle East.

The sudden de-escalation was brokered through urgent mediation of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, whose eleventh- hour intervention successfully pulled both nations back from the brink of a devastating regional war.

A Halt to Hostilities

United States President Donald J. Trump announced the suspension of a planned “destructive force” that was scheduled to strike Iran, declaring a “double-sided ceasefire.”

In his statement, Trump emphasized that the United States had already “met and exceeded all military objectives” and that the two nations are now “very far along with a definitive agreement concerning
longterm peace.”

From Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi confirmed the truce on behalf of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Araghchi stated that as long as attacks
against Iran are halted, the nation’s armed forces “will cease their defensive operations.”
Both leaders publicly expressed their gratitude to the Pakistani leadership for their tireless efforts to end the conflict.

The Strait of Hormuz Reopens

A central pillar of the temporary truce is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping choke point.

Trump made the ceasefire subject to Iran agreeing to the “complete, immediate, and safe opening” of the waterway.
Foreign Minister Araghchi confirmed that for the duration of the two-week period, safe passage through the Strait will be permitted.

However, he noted that this passage would require “coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces” and would be subject to “technical limitations.”

Path to a Definitive Agreement

The ceasefire provides a critical two- week window for negotiators to consummate a lasting peace treaty.
The framework for these negotiations appears to be a synthesis of competing
diplomatic blueprints: 15-point proposal from the United States and a 10-point proposal from Iran.

US President expressed optimism about the negotiations, stating that the Iranian
proposal serves as a “workable basis” and revealing that “almost all of various points of past contention have been agreed to.”

Araghchi echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the U.S. acceptance of the general framework of Iran’s proposal.

As the guns fall silent, the international community now watches closely. If the diplomatic momentum holds, this two- week pause could mark end of decades of hostility and fundamentally reshape the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.
