IGP reacts to video where Edo Policemen ran vehicle over citizen

Nigerian Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun has directed the Policemen who ran a vehicle over a citizen on Thursday at Ekpoma, Edo State, to report to Force Headquarter in Abuja on Monday for futher action.

In a statement released by the Force Spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi with the topic: Gross Misconduct By Edo Policemen, while the Police Chief condemned this unfortunate incident which was described as “disturbing”.



It was reported that the University town of Ekpoma in the Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State was on Thursday evening thrown into panic as a team of policemen with their official vehicle ran over a handcuffed middle-aged man.

In a video that circulated online on Friday, the handcuffed man was seen lying down in front of the police van as people engaged the policemen in a discussion, the driver of the police van drove away in a panic running over the man and dragging him along the road for a few metres.

 

 

The IGP, therefore, directed the erring policemen, who have been in detention in Edo State, to report to the Force Headquarters Abuja on Monday for further action.

IGP Egbetokun implored members of the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, to remain calm as his leadership will not condone such act of unprofessionalism and illegality among the Force.
