The Federal Ministry of Works Sports Club has launched its 2026 Sports Week, combining fitness, teamwork and staff welfare with a renewed pledge to promote excellence in sports.
The week began on Monday, 31 August 2026, with courtesy visits to senior officials of the Ministry.
Led by its officials and members, the Club used the visits to thank the Ministry’s leadership for supporting sports development and staff well-being.
Receiving the delegation, the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, praised the Club for its achievements and its role in projecting the Ministry’s image at sporting competitions.
He said the Club’s success went beyond trophies, stressing that a physically and mentally healthy workforce was essential to effective public service.
Goronyo assured the team of the Ministry’s continued support and urged members to maintain their winning momentum while bringing further recognition to the Ministry at national and inter-ministerial competitions.
The delegation also met with the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Aminu Ahmed, who pledged to support the Club’s programmes within available resources.
He expressed optimism about its future and welcomed plans to host upcoming sporting events in Kano, promising support and hospitality within his capacity.
Acknowledging the financial challenges facing the Ministry, Ahmed also expressed a willingness to help address some of the issues confronting the Club.
A major highlight of the launch was the unveiling of Sport Waves, the Federal Ministry of Works Sports Club magazine.
The publication received a significant boost from former Senator Yakubu Lado, in collaboration with the Director of Highways, Bridges and Design, Engr. Musa Saidu.
Lado pledged ₦5 million toward the magazine’s publication and promised to place an advertisement in its next edition.
The Club described the gesture as a major contribution to its efforts to document its achievements, promote sporting activities and deepen relationships with stakeholders.
The Director of Human Resource Management and Chairman of the Sports Club, Malam Ahmad Muhammad Tukur, commended the Ministry’s management for its support and urged members to uphold discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.
He said the Club’s achievements reflected not only its members but the entire Ministry.
Sports Manager Fakande Ayorinde Adeniyi said the opening courtesy visits were intended to demonstrate respect and appreciation to the Ministry’s leadership.
Assistant Sports Manager Tayo Omotosho added that continued encouragement from management and other supporters had lifted members’ morale and inspired them to aim higher.
The 2026 Sports Week will feature a range of sporting and fitness activities aimed at promoting healthy living, friendship, unity and team spirit among staff.
The Club reaffirmed its commitment to using sports as a platform for staff development, physical fitness and the positive representation of the Federal Ministry of Works.
