The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has warned residents of Alaoji, Aba, against vandalising power installations and encroaching on transmission corridors, as communities in Abia State pledged to help protect critical electricity infrastructure.

The warning was issued during a community awareness campaign organised by the TCN Port Harcourt Region on August 28, 2026, in Alaoji, within Ugwunagbo Local Government Area.

Speaking at the engagement, the Assistant General Manager of the TCN Aba Sub-Region, Engr. Juliet Ndi Ukomadu, said youths had repeatedly vandalised TCN earthing wires, cables and tower members.

She warned that the damage could trigger cascading collapses, bringing down several transmission towers at once.

Ukomadu urged residents and other stakeholders to break their silence on infrastructure sabotage by reporting suspicious activities around TCN facilities.

She also highlighted the dangers of tampering with power infrastructure and cautioned residents against constructing buildings within the transmission Right of Way or beneath power lines.

The Head of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Etang Edike, assured participants that anyone caught vandalising the installations would face the full weight of the law.

“The Civil Defence has stationed a dedicated patrol vehicle and six armed personnel ready to be deployed to any location upon call to apprehend vandals,” Edike said.

He called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements around transmission installations to security agencies or contact him directly.

The traditional ruler of Ekiti Akoma Ngwa Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Elder Promise Oguibe, assured TCN that his community would help safeguard the transmission infrastructure passing through the area.

Participants from the surrounding communities also pledged their cooperation with TCN and security agencies to protect the transmission facilities supplying power to their localities.
