Nigeria is embarking on a transformative journey of structural reforms and the renewed international engagement, as highlighted by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at a recent interactive session with foreign media in Abuja.

The nation is showcasing commitment to transparency, economic renewal, and stronger global partnerships under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Idris emphasized that these comprehensive reforms, the most significant in decades, are addressing critical sectors including the economy, security, tax, education, infrastructure, and social welfare.

Key Highlights of Nigeria’s Progress:
• Economic Rebound: Nigeria’s real GDP grew by 3.87% in 2025, marking a significant reversal of previous stagnation.

For the first time in nearly a decade, economic growth has surpassed population growth, indicating a robust economic momentum.

• Fiscal Discipline: The removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate have led to substantial fiscal savings.
These savings are being strategically redirected towards vital infrastructure projects and improved social services, demonstrating a commitment to responsible financial management.

• Enhanced Security: Intelligence-led security operations have instrumental in restoring stability across the country.

Furthermore, a new legislative push for state police aims to empower local governments and strengthen Nigeria’s overall governance framework.
• Human Capital Development: Significant investments in agriculture, education, and youth empowerment are yielding tangible results.

Initiatives such as NELFUND’s interest -free student loans and advancements in digital infrastructure are creating new
opportunities for the nation’s youth and workforce.

The Minister urged the international media to report on Nigeria with nuance, acknowledging both its challenges and credible progress.
He stated, “Accurate reporting requires holding both truths,” and welcomed the robust engagement and partnership with the international media to shape the country’s narrative and support its ongoing transformation.

Supporting the Minister’s address, Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance and
Coordinating Minister of the Economy, explained that Nigeria’s reform journey has entered a consolidation phase.

This phase focuses on translating policy gains into tangible impact for citizens, moving from fragility to stability, and now to consolidation, towards productivity and growth that Nigerians will feel in their daily lives.
Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, further
outlined the government’s strategy for economic diversification.

She emphasized Nigeria’s ambition to lead Africa’s growth through increased investment, expanded trade, and industrialization, stating, “Nigeria is not just participating in Africa’s growth, we are positioning ourselves to lead it through trade, investment, and industrialisation.”

The media session saw the attendance of several key government officials, including Dr. Taiwo Oyedele, Mrs. Jumoke Oduwole, Mr. Bayo Onanuga (Special Adviser to the President
on Information and Strategy).

Mr. Sunday Dare (Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation), and Abdulaziz Abdulaziz (Senior Special Assistant to the President, Print Media).
