The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, has taken a significant step towards bolstering power supply in Katsina State and the wider North-West region with the recent delivery of two 100MVA power transformers.
Arriving on Thursday, July 9, 2026, these critical components are earmarked for installation at the ongoing 330/132 /33kV Transmission Substation in Katsina.
This strategic delivery aligns with TCN’s ambitious grid expansion project, a nationwide initiative designed to reinforce Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure and meet the country’s escalating electricity demands.
The new transformers are pivotal for the completion of the Katsina substation, and once installed, tested, and commissioned, they are projected to inject an additional 160MW into the region’s transmission capacity.
The completion and energization of the Katsina Substation promise a substantial uplift in the reliability, flexibility, and overall efficiency of power transmission.
This enhancement will significantly augment TCN’s capability to evacuate bulk electricity to the various Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and surrounding areas, ultimately leading to improved and more stable electricity supply for residents and businesses.
