Media executive and community advocate Mentoring Cmdt Ambassador Alistair Soyode has received the AfroEuropa 2026 Star Leadership Award in recognition of his contributions to media leadership, global engagement, community development and African advocacy.
The honour was presented at the fifth AfroEuropa Gala & Awards Night, held at The City Pavilion in Romford, London. Themed “Fostering a United & Flourishing Community for Future Generations,” the event brought together African and European community leaders, entrepreneurs, civic representatives, professionals and business executives.
AfroEuropa, established in 2022 by Charming Production Limited—the publishers of Charming Magazine—celebrates achievement while promoting cultural exchange, community engagement and networking across borders.
Soyode, the founder and chairman of BEN Television, Europe’s first black and ethnic media platform, has used broadcasting and communications to connect Britain, Africa and the wider African diaspora.
His work also includes mentoring, community development and initiatives designed to link people, institutions and opportunities.
Among his recent efforts was helping facilitate the development of the Nigerian Netball Association and Nigeria’s participation in the African Netball Championships in Kenya—an initiative that connected diaspora support with national sporting development.
Accepting the award, Soyode expressed humility and gratitude, saying the recognition would encourage him to continue serving and creating opportunities for others.
“If our experience and relationships can help create opportunities or strengthen communities, then it is worthwhile,” he said.
The gala also recognised individuals for achievements in humanitarian service, education and leadership.
With civic figures—including the Mayors of Barking & Dagenham and Islington, as well as former Enfield Mayor Dr Kate Anolue—in attendance, the evening celebrated the power of service and collaboration.
For Soyode, the award represents more than a personal milestone. It is a tribute to a continuing commitment to leadership that connects communities, advances African interests and creates opportunities for future generations.
