Residents and businesses in parts of Abuja have witnessed a three-hour power interruption on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out urgent maintenance at its 330/132kV Gwagwalada Transmission Substation.
The exercise, scheduled to run from 10am to 1 pm, will involve maintenance work on the substation’s 33kV, 6MVA earthing reactor, according to a statement issued by TCN management.
As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to receive and to distribute power to customers in some parts of Abuja
Such parts includes Aso Villa, Asokoro, African Medical Center, Kabusa, EFAB Estate, Apo Resettlement, Zone E Extension, Trademoore, and surrounding communities during the maintenance period.
TCN said the intervention is necessary to ensure the continued reliability and safety of electricity infrastructure serving the affected areas.
The company apologized to electricity customers for the inconvenience and appealed for their understanding while the urgent work is completed.
