President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, announcing significant changes within the Federal Executive Council (FEC) aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing economic delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The announcement, detailed in a memo signed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, confirmed the departure of two key Ministers and the elevation of a familiar face, alongside a new ministerial nominee.
Mr. Wale Edun, who previously served as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, has been directed to hand over his responsibilities to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele.
Oyedele, formerly a Minister of State in the same ministry, now steps into the pivotal role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
His prior experience includes serving as the Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader at PwC for 22 years and chairing the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
In another key appointment, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister- designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.
Dr. Darma is a technocrat with a background in engineering and has been involved in development initiatives, notably as the Chairman of the Governing Council, Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management.
The reshuffle also sees Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa departing the cabinet, with directives for him to hand over to the Minister of State in his former ministry.
Handing over and taking over processes are mandated to be completed by the close of business on Thursday, April 23rd, 2026.
Senator Akume elaborated on the President’s decision, stating that “These changes are aimed at the strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
He affirmed that the President Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) in approving
these changes.
The President extended his gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their dedicated service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.
Akume also conveyed the President’s assurance to all cabinet members that “the process of reinvigoration shall be
continuous,” signaling a commitment to ongoing evaluation and optimization of
government performance.
