Umahi consoles APC Chairman, Kogi Governor over Mother, Father’s demise

Minister of Works, Sen. (Engr) David Umahi has extended his condolences to the National Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) Party, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda over his mother’s death.

The APC National Chairman’s mother, late Mama Lydia Yilwatda whose sad event occurred on 17th August 2025 at the age of 83 years.

The Minister, who in a statement commiserated with the Party National Chairman over his mother’s transition to glory, remembered the Chairman in his thoughts and prayers at this devastating moment.
He said, “The death of a loved one no doubt comes with intense feelings of grief no matter the age”, adding that the Chairman’s mother was an extraordinary woman who worked for the moral, social, cognitive development of her children and bore the brunt of their education with devotion, dignity and courage.

Umahi to the Chairman, “Although, your dear mother left at a time her motherly affection, prayers and warmth needed most, but be consoled by the fact that she fought a battle of faith and departed gloriously”.

The Minister prayed, “May the memories of her life and times bring you comfort and strength at this moment of grief and may her soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.
“Please accept always the assurances of the esteemed regards, and best wishes of my family, the management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Works”, Umahi concluded.

It was reported that Mama Lydia, alongside her late husband, Reverend Toma Goshewe Yilwatda, contributed immensely to the growth of the church in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Plateau states.

In a separate statement, the Minister also extended his condolences to Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo who lost his father, Ahmed Momohsani Ododo on the 18th day of August 2025 at the age of 83 years.

Umahi said, “Your Excellency, as you grief the loss of your dear father, may you find comfort in fond and beautiful memories of his life and times which was filled with legacies rooted in hope and faith”.

He added, “While alive, your late father related with his people with kindness, warmth and wisdom. His legacy will no doubt continue through the wonderful memories you cherish.

“Although, we shall miss his fatherly love and counsel, be consoled by the fact that he lived a fulfilled life worthy of celebration”.
The Minister sent his profound commiserations to the Governor’s family, the government and people of Kogi State at this moment of grief. “May Allah grant him eternal peace in paradise.

Umahi condoled Kogi Governor to accept the assurances of the compassionate considerations, esteemed regards, and best wishes of his family, management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Works.

Report has it that details of the circumstances surrounding his death were not disclosed, but govt officials and political leaders in Kogi have paid their tributes to the governor’s late father, who was widely respected in his community.

The late Alhaji Ahmed Momohsani is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, including Governor Usman Ododo, who assumed office in January 2024.
