President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed administration’s unwavering commitment to alleviating economic hardship and decisively combating insecurity across Nigeria.

The assurance came during the 2026 Democracy Day celebration on Sunday, where the sacrifices of June 12 heroes were invoked as an inspiration for national progress.

Speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume at the National Inter-Denominational Church Service in Abuja, the President acknowledged the severe economic strain, the insecurity, kidnappings, and displacement affecting numerous communities.

“Government is sensitive to all these pains, shares in these pains and has heard your cries,” Akume stated, emphasizing the President’s dedication to addressing these challenges with compassion and responsibility.

The SGF highlighted the government’s determination to secure the release of all captives and bolster security agencies with necessary resources.

He declared unequivocally, “The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation.”

The Democracy Day service, themed “God of hope, actualise our dreams,” marked 27 uninterrupted years of democratic rule.

Senator Akume congratulated Nigerians on this milestone, attributing it to the resilience and sacrifices of citizens and pro-democracy activists who fought for the restoration of democracy, many enduring persecution and even death.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the SGF urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to reject violence, hate campaigns, and divisive rhetoric.

He cautioned against being used for “thuggery, political violence, misinformation campaigns, ethnic abuse or religious intolerance,” adding, “Your future is worth more than any politician’s temporary convenience.”

The President’s message underscored Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance, interfaith harmony, and peaceful international engagement, asserting the strength and resilience of the nation’s democratic institutions despite existing challenges.

He called on all Nigerians to honor the legacy of June 12 by striving for a nation with peaceful elections, accountable leaders, secure communities, and dignity for every citizen.
