The Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to embrace unity, patriotism and active participation in the 2027 General Elections.
ACOE Chairman, Comrade Sola Akingboye, made the call in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, saying the anniversary offered Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s journey, achievements and challenges since independence.
He urged citizens at home and in the diaspora to uphold peaceful coexistence, regardless of ethnic, religious, political or geographical differences.
According to him, Nigeria’s diversity should be seen as a strength and a foundation for building a more inclusive and prosperous country.
Akingboye stressed that citizens’ participation in elections was critical to strengthening democracy and ensuring accountability among elected representatives.
He called on political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to promote issue-based campaigns and peaceful engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.
He also urged Nigerians to reject violence, hate speech, misinformation and other acts capable of undermining national peace and democratic stability.
The ACOE chairman said the media, particularly online platforms, had a responsibility to provide credible information and encourage responsible public discourse.
He called on Nigerians to renew their faith in the country and contribute meaningfully to its growth and development, assuring that ACOE remained committed to responsible journalism, national unity and democratic values.
Akingboye wished Nigerians a happy Independence Anniversary, expressing optimism that the country would overcome its challenges and realise its full potential.
