Nigerian Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi has congratulated the winner of the Ebonyi South Senatorial District bye-election of 3rd February, 2024, Professor Okorie Anthony Ani of All Progressives Congress, the APC.
Umahi who was the Senator representing this district before taking the appointment of President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the serving Works Minister, said in his message that Ani’s victory and proportional scores of the Political Parties are eminent testaments to the popularity of the great Party, the APC in Ebonyi State.
It was reported that the Returning Officer of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Ebonyi South Senatorial bye- election, Uchechukwu Eze, in early hours of Sunday, made the declaration of Professor Ani at Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state which serves as the senatorial district headquarters.
The Officer stated that Professor Ani having secured the highest number of votes in the just concluded bye elections, is declared winner and returned as Senator-elect.
Professor Ani polled a total of 46,270 votes to win, Linus Okorie of Labour Party (LP) who scored 2,710, also Ifeanyi Eleje of All Grand Progressive Congress (APGA), with 3,513 and Silas Onu of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) 2,783 votes.
The Minister applauded the good sense of judgment of the people of Ebonyi South Senatorial District who freely chose to vote for the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC based on their convictions of his moral and intellectual capacity.
“To represent his people in the 10th Senate and their confidence in the Renewed Hope administration of our dear President, His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the People’s Charter of Needs of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru”.
Umahi appreciated the leadership and the structure of the great Party at all levels for their tenacity of purpose that brought victory to the Party. “My dear brother, I have no doubt that you will represent the people of Ebonyi South effectively and defend the cause of their unity and progress”.
The Minister wished the Senator-elect the best as he move to represent their people at the nation’s red chamber. “Once more congratulations, and please accept the assurances of the deepest considerations of the esteemed regards and best wishes of my family, the management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Works”, he said.
