The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Beer Sectoral Group (BSG) have renewed their five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signaling a fortified commitment to eradicate drink-driving and foster responsible alcohol consumption among Nigerian drivers.

This strategic alliance, solidified today, April 20, 2026, at the FRSC National Headquarters, represents a concerted effort to address one of the primary causes of road fatalities in the nation.

The renewed pact is not merely a ceremonial gesture but a decisive, collaborative offensive against the most preventable cause of road carnage.

It strategically merges the FRSC’s
statutory enforcement powers with the brewing industry’s extensive influence and resources, aiming to safeguard every commuter, family, and life on Nigeria’s roads.

The signing ceremony was presided over by the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, and the Chairman of the Beer Sectoral Group, Thibaut Boidin, who jointly executed the agreement.

This declaration signifies a direct challenge to complacency, mandating intensified nationwide campaigns, aggressive public education initiatives, and targeted interventions designed to confront drink-driving at its root.
Under the terms of the MoU, the Federal Road Safety Commission will contribute its authoritative enforcement capabilities and data-driven strategies.

In parallel, the Beer Sectoral Group, comprising major brewing entities, will leverage its broad reach, substantial resources, and commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Together, these partners aim to dismantle the prevailing culture that erroneously considers alcohol consumption compatible with operating a vehicle.
Over the next five years, the success of this alliance will be measured by tangible outcomes: lives preserved, families kept intact, and roads made demonstrably safer.

The FRSC and the Beer Sectoral Group are establishing a significant precedent, delivering an unequivocal message to all Nigerians: Drink responsibly or do not drive at all.

The execution of this pivotal agreement was witnessed by prominent figures, including Girish Sharma of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Nicholas Kade, International Breweries Plc, and BSG Executive Director Abiola Lasehinde, alongside the full leadership contingent of the FRSC Management.
