The Federal Government’s Renewed Hope housing programme is widening access to affordable homes and improving living standards, with more than 10,000 housing units currently under construction across 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris made this known in Abuja on Friday at the 20th Anniversary Gala and Award Night of Abuja Property Development Company (APDC) Limited.
He said the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme reflected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit through sustained investment, strategic partnerships and innovative mortgage financing.
“These interventions show the importance of sustained investment, effective partnerships and innovative financing in making homeownership more accessible to Nigerians,” the minister said.
The programme, he added, was advancing housing projects nationwide while creating opportunities for families to secure decent accommodation and improve their quality of life.
Idris, a former Chairman of APDC’s Board of Directors, congratulated the company on reaching its 20-year milestone and commended its management, staff and stakeholders for their contributions to its growth.
He urged property developers to uphold high standards, plan responsibly and ensure that their projects responded to the needs of families and communities.
“Property development goes beyond putting up buildings. It involves creating spaces where families can live, businesses can grow and communities can thrive,” he said.
According to him, well-planned developments promote urban growth, create jobs and stimulate economic activity.
APDC later honoured Idris with an award for his service as former chairman of the company’s board. The plaque recognised his leadership during his two tenures and credited his stewardship with contributing to the company’s development, structure and reputation.
The minister expressed optimism that APDC would build on its two decades of experience and continue supporting Abuja’s growth through quality housing and responsible property development.
Those at the event included the Group Managing Director of Abuja Investment Company Limited, represented by Dr Abiodun Akambi; the Acting Managing Director of APDC, Akeem Aderogba; former APDC Managing Director, Lawal Magaji; as well as the company’s chief executives, management, staff and other dignitaries.
