In a powerful display of gratitude and support, the people of Nigeria’s Southeast region are celebrating what they describe as an unprecedented era of infrastructure development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This sentiment was prominently showcased on Saturday, June 13, 2026, as the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, led a Federal Government delegation on an extensive inspection of ongoing federal road projects across Ebonyi State.
Umahi, accompanied by the Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, highlighted the transformative impact of these projects, emphasizing region’s deep appreciation for Tinubu’s commitment to inclusion, fairness, and development.
“The Southeast remains deeply grateful to President Tinubu for the tangible evidence of inclusion, fairness and development,” Umahi stated during the inspection.
Among the key projects inspected was a major flyover under construction along the Trans-Sahara Super Highway corridor, a critical junction designed to resolve traffic conflicts.
Umahi confirmed that the 2026 budget includes provisions to connect this vital corridor directly to the Ebonyi State capital, an 18km stretch that will significantly enhance connectivity.
Despite acknowledging funding challenges, the Minister assured that work would continue uninterrupted, with a target commissioning date of December for some projects.
“Of course, the contractor has not been paid, but we are creditworthy. All contractors being owed will be paid. There should be no stoppage of work because we want to see if we can commission this project by December. The cost is ₦25 billion,” he affirmed.
Umahi underscored that these projects are merely a prelude to a broader developmental agenda for the Southeast. “This is just the beginning. You will see remarkable projects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the South-East.”
He further revealed that the people of the Southeast have taken notice of the President’s interventions and are prepared to openly express their appreciation.
“By Monday, under the leadership of the Governor of Ebonyi State, we will demonstrate this appreciation when we adopt the President as sole candidate and, of course, the Governor.”
In a resolute declaration, Umahi asserted Ebonyi State’s political alignment, stating, “Let it be known that Ebonyi State is not obedient because we want to catch up with the rest of the country, and we will never be obedient. What happened before was an accident of history. It will not repeat itself.”
Updates were also provided on the flagship Trans-Sahara Super Highway, a project with a ₦668 billion contract already awarded and approximately 28% completion, despite the rainy season.
Umahi noted the historical significance of the highway, originally conceived during the colonial era but now being realized under President Tinubu’s leadership.
“We presented the concept to the President, a man divinely called to do the impossible. What was once a colonial dream is now being realized more than sixty years later.”
The Minister emphasized that the highway is a critical economic route, connecting Nigeria to neighboring countries and unlocking agricultural and industrial opportunities.
He elaborated on President Tinubu’s broader infrastructure agenda, describing the four legacy projects as investments designed to transform the Nigerian economy, drawing parallels to how advanced economies stimulate growth during economic downturns.
Umahi also highlighted other visible projects in Ebonyi and neighboring states, including bridges, flyovers, dual carriageways, and the Dangote Tax Credit Road Project.
He reaffirmed the Southeast’s support for President Tinubu, citing clear evidence of inclusion in federal infrastructure investments.
The presence of a Minister of Works from the Southeast, he added, has been instrumental in ensuring the region’s needs are met.
Further details on President Tinubu’s four signature legacy projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, were shared, with Umahi explaining that these initiatives are designed to create jobs, support agriculture, expand regional trade, and attract industries.
Plans along these corridors include dams, irrigation systems, power infrastructure, agricultural settlements, housing developments, factories, hotels, and renewable energy facilities, promising extensive direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Concluding his remarks, Minister Umahi offered a strong endorsement of President Tinubu’s leadership: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, God brought you. God will continue to guide and preserve you. We stand with you for the years ahead.”
He also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to quality and durability in all projects, citing the use of Grade 40 concrete.
The 51-kilometer Okposi-Ohaozara- Ukawu-Cross River road project, valued at ₦53 billion, is nearing completion, with extensions planned in the 2026 budget to connect to the newly approved South- East Army Depot, and a new flyover at Okposi to enhance connectivity.
