The Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister, Melania Joly has confirmed that two people killed over the explosion that rocked the country’s embassy in Abuja, Nigeria on Monday 6th of November 2023.
According to the Minister on Twitter (X) made the confirmation while sending her heartfelt condolences to the families of the two people killed in this tragedy.
She said, “We can confirm there was an explosion at our High Commission in Nigeria. The fire is out and we are working to shed light on what caused this situation. I send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the 2 people killed in this tragedy”.
The Canadian High Commission situated at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive, Central Business District in Abuja, Nigeria on Monday rocked with explosion as pictures circulating online show smoke coming from the building.
The High Commission which provides visa and immigration services for those seeking to visit or emigrate to Canada, also provides services to Canadians visiting and living in Nigeria and to Canadians in Equatorial Guinea, and Sao Tome and Principe.
Tinubu sympathizes with Canadian govt over fire outbreak in Abuja Embassy
Meanwhile, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sympathized with the Canadian government, diplomatic community, and all persons affected by a fire incident which occurred on Monday at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja.
In a statement released by the President aide, assured the Canadian authorities of the full support of the Nigerian government in the aid of diplomatic and local staff of the High Commission who were particularly affected by the incident.
Nigerian President prayed for the repose of the departed souls and wished all injured persons a rapid and full recovery.
